I agree. I was going to do a post on just function keys on the few typewriters I have. I like the Facit the best. All near the right hand shift key. I do not have any with accents and special characters except the Greek letters that I use for electronics on my Classic-12 .

This is true -- every typewriter has its own idiosyncrasies. If you want to feel perfectly comfortable and type very smoothly, you have to use only one machine.

In the Spanish-language layouts I've seen, the strangest, by far, are the IBM keyboards. In most of my typewriters the " is located over the 2, and the accent (´) is located to the right of the letter P. But on the IBM Selectrics and Wheelwriters, the " is on the lower right bank, and there are extra characters you don't find on manual typewriters (because you hardly use them... for example, the 1/2 and 1/4 type).

Just for the sake of perspective, in the Spanish layout, the " is located on top of the 2. So IBM proposed its own standard keyboard layout for its electric/electronic machines... which nobody else followed.

it's funny because it's true.
